Dishwasher Operation
All of the dishwasher operations are controlled by the timer and selector switch. Several dishwasher cycles and options are available: Heavy Soil, Normal Soil, Light Soil, and a Rinse-Dishwasher Hold cycle.
Energy options include a heated dry cycle.
The door latch holds the door closed and activates the door latch switch to complete the electrical circuit for dishwasher operation. If the door is opened during the cycle, the latch switch opens and all operations cease. After the cycle selection is made and the door latch is closed, the timer energizes the water fill valve allowing water to enter the dishwasher. The timed fill period allows 1.3 to 1.5 gallons of water to enter the dishwasher for either the wash or the rinse cycles. Should the timer fill contacts fail to close during the fill cycle, dishwasher assembly located in the left front corner of the tub will open electrical circuit to the fill valve at a preset "overfill"
A water temperature above 14°F is required to activate the dishwasher detergent. The tub and dishes act together as a large heat sink which may lower the temperature incoming hot water below the detergent activation temperature. Proper water temperature is maintained in the dishwasher by an 800-watt heater, located in the bottom of the tub. The heater operates during the wash and rinse cycle. The dishwasher motor and pump assembly has two impellers one for wash and one for drain. During the dishwasher wash cycle, the water at a rate of 50 gallons per minute. The water is distributed at two levels through wash arm under the lower rack and through the wash tower under the upper rack. The holes in the arm provide water to the lower rack, while the center wash tower provide water to the upper dishwasher arm. During the drain cycle (motor rotates the lower drain impeller pumps the water out the drain. The heat for drying is furnished by the 800-watt dishwasher heating element.
