A self-cleaning means oven cleans itself. It heals to a very high temperature to burn off baked splatters. When the cleaning cycle is in operation, the oven heats to temperatures higher than those used for cooking. Sounds of metal expansion and odor are also normal because the food spatters are being carbonized. Smoke may appear from the oven vent, located on the top the oven control panel. A smoke eliminator in the oven converts most of the smoke into colorless vapor. If heavy spillovers are present and are not wiped up before cleaning, they may flame and be more smoke and odor than usual. This is normal and and should not cause alarm.
To set the controls for self-cleaning, use the following process
I. Close the oven door. Be sure that the oven clock shows ne correct time of day.
2. Push the Clean button window will show place of the time of day. The words CLEAN TIME will appear in the lower left corner of the display window.
3. Turn the oven set knob in a clockwise direction until '3:00" appears in the display window. Three hours of cleaning is the recommended amount of cleaning time moderately soiled oven. You may wish to set the control for a longer or a shorter cleaning period, depending on the amount of soil in the oven. The cleaning time can be set for any amount of time from 2 to 4 hours. When turning the Set knob to select the cleaning time, the time will increase or decrease in 5-minute increments.
As soon as the controls are set, the motor-driven door lock begins to close and the cleaning cycle begins. It takes about 15 seconds for the door to completely lock, and the words CLEAN LOCK will appear in the display window.
