Refrigerator Humidity Switch
The refrigerator humidity switch is called by different names oil different makes of refrigerators. Whatever it's called it has one purpose. That is to prevent refrigerator humidity from forming on the center or edges of the frame of the refrigerator itself.
Every geographic area of the country has one or two humid seasons of the year. When it is humid in your part of the country, turn the refrigerator humidity switch on to the "On" position. Some people do not do this because they think they are saving money. Wrong. The switch activates a very low wattage heating unit which heats the mullions and combats the formation of humidity.
If you do not turn the humidity switch oil during the high humidity season little drops of water form oil the center edges of the frame. Over a period of time, these little drops of moisture can rot the refrigerator seals. The refrigerator humidity heating unit costs just pennies to run and can save you a hundreds of dollars in refrigerator repair bills. Look for the humidity switch now, if you can’t find it, consults your refrigerator manual. Know where it is located and turn it on and off with the change of weather conditions.
When the refrigerator humidity switch is on, you should be able to feel a little heat when you put your hand on the center mullions. It should feel warm, not hot. If it feels extra hot, this is one of the first signs of failure on your refrigerator.
Long running time of refrigerator motor.
A person usually becomes aware of the “refrigerator problem" when they have a new, or recently repaired refrigerator. Relax. Ninety-five percent of the time this is not a problem. The sounds of our refrigerator, like all our loyal household servants, usually fade into the background and we are unaware of them.
All of a sudden, because we have suddenly shelled out a bundle of money on our refrigerator an awareness develops in the frontal lobe of our brains and we start actually listening to the sound of" the refrigerator. Lo and behold the motor goes oil and on and on. Something must be wrong. Those, blank thieves have taken our money and given us faulty goods.
When a refrigerator is down, or has just gone through I defrost cycle, it is perfectly normal the motor to run continuously for an hour or more. No problem. There is usually nothing to be concerned about.
If you're still concerned:
The modern refrigerator has two main parts: the cooler and the freezer. To see if your refrigerator is working properly, check to see at what temperature the cooler and the freezer are keeping the food.
